Moonscopes: Eclipse in Aquarius

Today's Eclipse is in Aquarius, and I am thinking about bees. I listened to an episode of Radiolab yesterday called TIME IS HONEY about how bees work together to find pollen and fill their honey stores efficiently. The way they do this (explained beautifully in the episode) inspired an unlikely chain of scientists who use the principles they learned to speed up the internet. The episode ends with a meditation on decision-making and time: collectively, bees respond to what is happening, no more and no less, and decide what to do next from there. Doesn’t that sound nice?

Aquarius, often considered the rebellious kid of the zodiac, is also concerned with deciding what to do next. A Saturn-ruled sign, Aquarius is interested in reality and if it can be changed. In this way, we can understand Aquarius as the sign of the builder and the innovator. The constellation Aquarius depicts a water-bearer; and if we ask ourselves why would one bear water we're led immediately to this: one must bear water in order to move it. Agriculture was the first technology, no? 

Many of us are allergic to technology and innovation these days, having been burned by Silicon Valley’s version that hath wrought much suffering. The Radiolab episode reminded me that there can be another kind of innovating, one that sits on the knife-edge of responding to what is and deciding what’s next, one that doesn’t propose a top-down, technocratic solution, but instead one that emerges from the in-the-moment needs of the many.

This brings us back to the eclipse. My advice is to make like the bees and stay collectively- and practically-minded. Bees don’t go at it alone, and neither should you. Try to keep things flowing the best you can and mind your spiritual (and physical!) hygiene. Don’t charge your crystals in this one; ask only for things that could use a big and unpredictable shake-up.
