Moonscopes: Full Moon in Leo
A Leo full moon is singular in the year - the only one in the year ruled by the Sun, thus layering on to the dance that our Sun and Moon do in the sky. The metaphor of the full moon is one of the most fundamental in all of astrology: that the sun is how we give attention and the moon is the reception of that attention. That different light levels of the moon portend different outcomes, that the different placements of those celestial bodies mean something.
Today, with the moon in Leo and the Sun in Aquarius, the giving of attention comes from the location that often signals groups of people and the reception of attention comes from the location that often signals individuals. Were we not all glued to the actions of a few, this week? Were you watching videos of individuals putting their lives on the line and losing them? Were you reading the emails of the evil men?
Simone Weil - an Aquarius sun - says: “attention, taken to its highest degree, is the same thing as prayer.”
This past week's news got a lot of my attention, even for someone who tithes at the church of monitoring the situation. Each day a new Thing to Watch. Each day a thing to post about. It was tempting this week to feel like Watching is Acting- it always is, but with the moon in Leo attention as care was dialed to 11.
While I posted quite a bit about the “strike” on Friday and I was heartened with the protest attendance I saw on my social feeds, I was annoyed by the softening of the language around the "general strike" on Friday. "A Strike is Not a Spell" is an excellent article that sharpened my thinking by the brilliant Tabitha Arnold, a labor artist. If you want to understand my own annoyances - that covers it.
And - as we head out of the full moon and into the rest of Aquarius season: I beg us all to remember that attention is most powerful when it happens in meatspace. That is the lesson of the Minnesotans - the detained, the murdered, and the protestors- and their effective attention: the stakes are bodily, and the required attention must be as bright and embodied as the full moon in Leo demands.
Some prompts:
This full moon in Leo you can ask yourself: if my attention is prayer, what am I praying for?
This full moon in Leo I want you to release the kind of attention you can’t use for liberation.
This full moon in Leo I want you to ask yourself: if I must be seen, what do I want to be seen doing?
moonscopes resume tomorrow - daily on instagram and weekly here. Xoxo.
